BC Place Northern Lights to go dark during Earth Hour on Saturday

March 25th, 2022

VANCOUVER, BC – BC Place’s Northern Lights display and non-essential lights at the Vancouver Convention Centre, including the iconic globe and district markers surrounding the Vancouver 2010 Cauldron at Jack Poole Plaza, will be switched off in observance of Earth Hour on Saturday, March 26 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Held every year on the last Saturday of March, Earth Hour encourages people around the world to show their support for the planet by switching off their lights for one hour. This symbolic initiative started in 2007 and has grown into one of the world's largest grassroots movements for the environment, engaging millions of people in more than 190 countries.

Following Earth Hour, BC Place will resume lighting for International Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness on Saturday evening. BC Place and the Vancouver Convention Centre will also continue to light in blue and yellow as a sign of solidarity for the people of Ukraine.
