BC Place glows purple for Schizophrenia Awareness Day

May 24th, 2020

BC Place will glow purple for National Schizophrenia Awareness Day on Sunday, May 24th.

Schizophrenia affects one in 100 people, with the predominant age of onset between 15 and 25 years old. If treated early, schizophrenia can be managed effectively, allowing for a reasonable quality of life. Even though schizophrenia and other mental illnesses are diseases of the brain, people with mental illnesses and the families that support them face stigma. Schizophrenia Awareness Day aims to smash the stigma and make it possible for people to talk about mental illness without shame.
