BC Place glows blue for Battle of the Atlantic Anniversary

May 4th, 2019

BC Place will light up blue this morning in advance of commemorative ceremonies taking place across the country on Sunday, May 5th, to mark the anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic.

The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest military engagement of the Second World War, lasting from September 1939 to May 1945. Men and women of the Canadian Merchant Navy, the Royal Canadian Navy and the Royal Canadian Air Force played an important role in the Allied efforts. More than 4,600 courageous Canadians lost their lives at sea.

The Royal Canadian Navy will host a Battle of the Atlantic Parade and Commemorative Ceremony on May 5th at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Ontario, with several other commemorative ceremonies planned across the country.
