BC Place Lights up Pink for International Day of the Girl

October 11, 2017 is the sixth annual International Day of the Girl and BC Place will light up pink tonight to show Canada's support of girls' rights around the world. Plan International is one of the world’s oldest and largest international development agencies, working in partnership with millions of people around the world to end global poverty. Because I am a Girl is Plan International’s global movement to transform power relations so that girls everywhere can learn, lead, decide and thrive.

As part of the Because I am a Girl movement, Plan International Canada led the call for the creation of an International Day of the Girl. Monuments around the world have been annually lighting up pink in support of this important day. Last year in Canada 9 provinces and territories lit up, with participants including BC Place Stadium, the Olympic Cauldron in Vancouver, the CN Tower and Niagara Falls, Calgary Tower, Cabot Tower in Newfoundland and city halls and legislative buildings across the nation.

Together we can shine a light on girls’ rights and help create a brighter future for girls around the world!
