BC Place Shines in a Light on Important Community Initiatives

Have you ever wondered why BC Place’s unique roof is glowing a certain color?

It is common to see BC Place illuminated in support for its two home teams, shining blue for the Vancouver Whitecaps of Major League Soccer and orange for the BC Lions of the CFL. But what you might not know is that the stadium is also regularly glowing in support of various charities and organizations in the community.

Our lights on the stadium roof – known as the Northern Lights Display – are used to promote events, celebrate seasonal holidays and raise awareness for organizations and charities in the community. The display is made up of 1700 ‘ETFE’ panels, stacked four rows high, and 6,800 linear feet of energy-efficient LED lights to create the customizable lighting displays. We are proud to use our cutting-edge roof lighting technology to support dozens of local and international initiatives, and to help make a difference in BC!

February 6th - PEDAW – Eating Disorders Awareness

BC Place was glowing purple in support of the launch of the 2015 Provincial Eating Disorders Awareness (PEDAW) campaign, titled ‘Love our bodies, love ourselves’. This campaign is a BC province-wide effort to raise awareness around prevention and early intervention of eating disorders as well as media literacy, resiliency, building healthy body image and self-esteem.

February 14 and 15 – Variety Show of Hearts

The 49th Annual Variety Show of Hearts Telethon was held on February 14th & 15th 2015, and BC Place showed their support by lighting up red! Variety’s mission is to raise funds and distribute grants throughout British Columbia to inspire hope, enrich lives and build a better future for children who have special needs. Variety has presented its signature Show of Hearts Telethon since 1965.

February 25 – Pink Shirt Da

BC Place was shining pink in support of Canada’s “Pink Shirt Day”, a national anti-bullying awareness campaign. People are encouraged to wear pink on this day to support anti-bulling programs across the country.

March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day

To celebrate the Irish, BC Place was illuminated green for St. Patrick’s Day!

March 26 – Epilepsy Awareness

The Northern Lights roof lighting display at BC Place illuminated purple on March 26th in support of Purple Day - a day dedicated to increasing awareness about epilepsy. BC Epilepsy Society and Center for Epilepsy and Seizure Education encourages British Columbians to join others around the world by wearing purple in support of epilepsy awareness.
