BC Place welcomes the 5th Annual Canucks Autism Network Sports Day!

June 1st, 2017

On Sunday,
May 21, more than 300 children and teens with autism gathered at BC Place to meet their sporting heroes from the Vancouver Canucks, BC Lions, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and Vancouver Canadians during the 5th annual Canucks Autism Network (CAN) Sports Day.

BC Place is proud to host the annual CAN Sports Day: an opportunity for children, youth and young adults with autism to participate in a variety of sports – all under one roof! Pro athletes and volunteers from the Canucks, ‘Caps, Lions and Canadians lead the sports activities for the CAN participants. The result is an inspiring display of support, gratitude, and positive impact in the lives of young British Columbians living with autism. Special thanks to Canucks Autism Network for all the work they do in the community, and also to the Vancouver Canucks, the Vancouver Whitecaps, the BC Lions, Vancouver Canadians, BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, TSN Radio Vancouver, and the incredible volunteers who help make this one of the most important events hosted at BC Place!

The Canucks Autism Network (CAN) provides year-round sports and recreation programs for individuals and families living with autism, while increasing awareness and providing training in communities across British Columbia. The year-round programming includes Family events, Sporting events, Overnight Camps, Music Programs, and much more.

Each program consists of a coach, support workers and volunteers, who help provide support for each individual with autism. Learn more about CAN at www.canucksautism.ca

Hundreds of kids have the time of their life at KIDS Play Foundation Soccer Tournament!

May 31st, 2017

BC Place hosted one of the most exciting – and also one of the most important – events of the year this past weekend as hundreds of Vancouver school kids participated in the KIDS Play Foundation Soccer Tournament.

KIDS Play is a non-profit organization that works towards keeping kids away from a lifestyle of drugs, gangs, and violence. The Super Soccer Tournament is KIDS Play’s flagship event, and attracted hundreds of local youth and dozens of volunteers to the same pitch where the Vancouver Whitecaps and BC Lions play. The goal of the non-competitive Super Soccer Tournament is to engage inner-city youth by providing a unique experience, which in turn leads to developing a connection with youth at an early age and encourage positive mentorship.

Working with community-focused partners and sponsors, the KIDS Play hosts sports tournaments, conferences, and other projects for young people to learn about the opportunities they can seize within life. BC Place is proud to host the KIDS Play Foundation’s Super Soccer Tournament – an annual community event that is focused on making a difference in the lives of young British Columbians. We look forward to welcoming KIDS Play back in 2018!

BC Place welcomes U2 for start of The Joshua Tree Tour 2017!

BC Place is excited to welcome U2 back to BC Place this Friday, May 12 as they kick off The Joshua Tree Tour 2017! More than 40,000 fans are expected for the first major concert event in Vancouver for 2017. Guests are encouraged to visit BC Place’s website for information and FAQ’s in preparation for a busy event.

In addition to the main concert event this Friday, residents and visitors of downtown Vancouver have been delighted by the familiar sounds of one of the world’s most enduring rock bands; BC Place Stadium has had the unique honour of being chosen to host the superstar band for several weeks of stage production, tour preparations and band rehearsals before they hit the road for their world tour.

U2 will perform The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 with support from Mumford & Sons – one of the hottest bands to tour North America this summer. Following U2 The Joshua Tree World Tour 2017, BC Place has a busy summer of concerts in 2017 with Metallica, Guns N’ Roses and Coldplay all scheduled to visit in 2017.
Since opening in 1983, BC Place has hosted U2 for six concert events: one in 1987, two in 1992, one in 1997, one in 2009, and now again in 2017. The most recent concert in 2009, the U2: 360 Tour at BC Place, attracted more than 16,000 fans from out of town and generated more than $14million in economic activity in the province of BC* .
