BC PLACE WILL HELP ORANGE THE WORLD: END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

November 24th, 2016

BC Place will glow orange on November 25 in support of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the start of the16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, November 25, to December 10, Human Rights Day.
In support of this international initiative, each year the United Nations UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign calls for global action to increase worldwide awareness. The UNiTE campaign uses the colour orange as a uniting theme symbolizing a brighter future free from violence. It calls on all people around the world to “ORANGE THE WORLD” and step up efforts to eliminate violence against women and girls.
In 2016, the UNiTE campaign strongly emphasizes the need for sustainable financing for efforts to end violence against women and girls towards the fulfilment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Grandmothers Advocacy Network (GRAN) is working to see a greater Canadian involvement in the international Orange campaign, and to keep the elimination of violence against women at the top of national and global agendas. That is why GRAN is taking part in the Orange campaign all across Canada and have asked BC Place to join us by lighting the stadium.
