UPDATE: Destination BC Releases July 2015 Tourism Numbers

The July 2015 ‘International Visitor Arrivals” report, which was recently released by Destination BC, confirms that 2.8 million overnight visitors have entered British Columbia from January to July 2015! The bulk of these visitors arrived during the months of June and July – with many taking in the action of FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 at BC Place!

An impressive 797,177 international overnight travelers visited BC throughout the month of July - a 9.9% increase from 2014. 542,190 of these travelers arrived from the United States – many of who were in Vancouver to support Team USA in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Final on July 5th at BC Place. According to the City of Vancouver, hotel occupancy set new records with 99 per cent of the hotel rooms in the city booked on the night of the championship match!

For the first six months of the 2015 calendar year, British Columbia experienced an 8.3% growth in international tourism in comparison to the same period in 2014!

According to Statistics Canada, 2,046,544 international overnight travelers entered British Columbia from January 2015 to the end of June 2015 – that’s more than three times the population of Vancouver!*

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, which took place at BC Place from June 8th to July 5th 2015, contributed immensely to the jump in international arrivals to British Columbia this Summer. According to Destination BC, 607,120 international overnight travelers visited BC throughout the month of June 2015 - a dramatic 9.5% increase from 2014. 405,015 of these travelers arrived from the United States, whose team took the pitch at BC Place against Nigeria on June 16th and again on July 5th for the gold medal match against Japan. In total, BC Place hosted nine matches over the course of the tournament and welcomed international teams and their supporters from countries including USA, Japan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ecuador, and Switzerland.

The total announced attendance for the tournament at BC Place was 356,899 Visitors, with four matches exceeding 50,000 in attendance.

BC Place is proud to have hosted an international tournament which attracted thousands of international visitors to Vancouver and in result, generated an estimated $52 million dollars to the province’s economy!
