BC Place Lighting Initiatives for the month of April

April 11th, 2016

The spectacular lights that glow on our stadium roof, known as “the Northern Lights Display”, are used to promote events at BC Place, celebrate seasonal holidays and raise awareness for organizations and charities that are important to communities in British Columbia.

Throughout the month of April BC Place is proud to be supporting the following initiatives:

April 9 to 15 – National Dental Hygienists Week

The Northern Lights display at BC Place will light up purple on Saturday, April 9 to kick off National Dental Hygienists Week - which runs from April 9 – 15. The weeklong event focuses on the importance of maintaining good oral health practices and helping Canadians understand the role and importance of the dental hygiene profession. The colour purple is synonymous with dental hygiene, and has been the official colour of dental professionals since 1897. Purple has long been the trim colour for dental hygiene graduates' caps and gowns and is said to signify compassion, purpose, and inspiration.

April 18 - BC Transplant’s ‘Green Light Project’

BC Place will glow green on Monday, April 18 to draw attention to BC Transplant’s Green Light Project. April 17-23 is National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week and the Green Light Project hopes to spread awareness about organ donation throughout British Columbia.

On Monday, April 18, and Tuesday, April 19, BC Transplant will once again be holding a TV, online and social media registration blitz to kick off organ donor awareness week, running April 18 to 22 to try to get 48,000 registrations in 48 hours.

April 19 - Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Action Day

The Northern Lights roof lighting display at BC Place will be illuminated pink, yellow and blue to help raise awareness for CDH – Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. April 19th is CDH Awareness Day.

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) occurs when the diaphragm fails to form or to close totally and an opening allows abdominal organs into the chest cavity. This inhibits lung growth. CDH occurs in approximately 1 in every 2,500 births. The cause of CDH is not yet known.
